Embark on a journey to discover some of New Zealand’s natural wonders; leaving the hustle and bustle of Auckland city behind, we head straight to Waitomo Caves from Auckland on this Waitomo and Rotorua day trip.

Once in the cave; glide along an underground river on a boat trip before reaching the Glowworm Grotto; an awe-inspiring sight featuring thousands of glowworms.

Allow your eyesight to readjust as your coach tour heads east to the geothermal and cultural hub of New Zealand; Rotorua. As you experience one of the best spa pools Rotorua has to offer, Polynesian Spa, you'll have the opportunity to switch off and soak up the minerals and the views in these naturally heated pools overlooking Lake Rotorua.

After reaching new levels of relaxation, we head to Te Puia to learn about Māori culture in New Zealand; you’ll be welcomed on to the marae (Māori meeting house) in the traditional way before experiencing a Māori cultural performance. You’ll also have the opportunity to see master woodcarvers and weavers at work at the Māori Arts and Crafts Institute.

To conclude your Waitomo and Rotorua day trip, head to Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley; marvel at the most famous of Rotorua geysers - Pohutu geyser - as well as mud pools, as you experience the famous Rotorua geothermal activity!

After Te Puia, your coach tour will return to Auckland in the evening.

Fantastic experience

The best part of the tour was how much passion the bus driver/organizer/tour guide/logistics planner/coordinator (yes this is just one person) showed. He made different tour groups flow together seamlessly. A wonderfully put together tour!

Spent nearly the entire day on the bus

Overall, I think the activities we did would have added up to about an hour and a half. We were inside the cave for a maximum of 40mins most of which was spent listening to a tour guide tell us not very much about the different functions that took place in there. 10mins max on looking at glowworms. I was at the Polynesian spa for a maximum of 35mins again as for some reason the tour was running late. I had 20mins in the spa, 5 mins to get changed at the beginning and ten mins to shower and be ready to be picked up. Then we watched spent about 20mins looking at the geothermal activity. It was definitely not worth the time spent travelling. The food was also pretty grim and was eaten on the bus. Not worth the money or travel time.

My rating of the Waitomo etc. tour

Rachel the driver was superb!!!! All places visited were five stars. However I think that visiting 3 places in one trip that driving consumes most of the day is a minus. I suggest to limit the visit to two places so the visitor can spend more time at each.
