Franz Josef Glacier Guides Valley Walk - 3 Hours

Your Glacier Valley walk will track adjacent the Waiho River bead, as it climbs toward the mighty Franz Josef Glacier itself.

This walk in a truly remarkable landscape, illustrates the path of retreat the Glacier has taken over time.

Here you will learn about the glacier's history, see what has been left behind by this majestic giant, and learn the legend of Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere.

Near the terminal face, you will cross over the public barriers.

After a brief climb you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the rapidly changing terminal face of the glacier, which offer stunning photographic opportunities. There has never been a more extraordinary time to visit Franz Josef Glacier, one of New Zealand's "must see" natural sights.

NB: Minimum numbers can be required - however the Operator will make all and every reasonable endeavor to operate the trip, but on very rare occasions trips may be cancelled.

Awesome walk!

It was an amazing experience walking through the rainforest and river valley to the glacier. The guides were really great (especially Adam ;) ), explained many interesting things and told funny stories. And you could see that they like what they are doing. We were provided with waterproof shoes, trousers and jacket, which was really necessary. But this way walking through the water was really fun. We could also choose if we want to go in the fast or slow group. The only thing I'm not happy about is, that in the morning I was told that I have a free entrance to hot pools with the tour, but when I asked again in the afternoon, they told me "no" and clipped my wrist band off :(

Good time but not worth the money

The glacier walk is cool but I don't feel like the guided tour added much value as opposed to driving to the car park and just waking by yourself. The website promises extra trail access, which was really just a rainforest walk and then you join the public trail. But you get a free beanie...

good guide but not the most attractive tour

while the valley walk itself is nice, it is also for free and the detour through the bush on the side of the valley does not really justify the price. We cannot recommend this tour at this pricepoint. The guide did however offer nice insights and appeared friendly and knowledgable. A shame he could not guide us along a more interesting route. The information provided by emails in regards of what to bring were plain wrong, possibly due to their generic nature for all tours of this operator. There was also the mention of a free hot pools entry that since seems to have been removed and was not offered with this tour.
