I can't say my knowledge of ornithology is great, but it improved substantially with Allen's infinitesimal knowledge and passion for the subject. There didn't seem to be any question that he couldn't answer, and he catered well to a group of diverse people. Furthermore, he also provided lots of insights into the local māori and their history which was icing on the cake for anybody looking to broaden their knowledge of tangata whenua.
We had a fabulous day on the Farewell Spit tour. Fortunately the weather was great, but Paddy is very knowledgeable and entertaining, so I am sure it would have been great anyway. Thoroughly recommend the trip, and it was very good value.
Loved it. The lone lonely beach with the only other living creatures being seals and sea birds was such a comparison to the rush and bustle of life as we know it daily. The driver Paddy gave commentaries that were interesting and informative. Enjoyed the comfort of the bus and the coffee and cake at the light house. We were fortunate with the weather also, it stayed fine until we were off the Spit and on our way back to Collingwood and then down came the rain in buckets.
The Farewell spit team are well organised, informative and engaging it was a great experience visiting this isolated part of New Zealand and experiencing the nature and human endeavour that characterises the region.

A Bucket List Must Do
Allan our guide & driver made this full day a wonderful experience. He was passionate, entertaining & knowledgeable. Felt privileged to be able to have access to a precious piece of nature. This is a 'must do' if you're in Golden Bay
