Picton - Historic Ship - Edwin Fox Ship & Visitor Centre - Worlds oldest Merchant Ship

The Oldest Merchant ship in the World!

The Edwin Fox Ship & Visitor Centre is a rare example of our long gone past.

It has been a convict ship, an immigrant ship bringing early settlers to New Zealand and a trader.

It may have even bought your early fore-bearers to New Zealand or Australia!!, and what stories it has to tell.

Edwin Fox Ship & Visitor Centre in Picton is a must do.

It is very highly rated and offers an ideal all weather activity and it is particularly family friendly.

Try lying on a straw bed, as the early travellers did. See the interactive displays and amaze yourself at the hardships the early seafarers were subjected to.

This is a classic part of New Zealand maritime history right in the heart of Picton.

    Unexpectedly excellent.

I loved this experience. The museum was interesting and great for the kids, and the opportunity of being able to go on the boat superb. A very well spent hour, though, if it wasn’t for whirlwind children I could have been there for 2 or 3.

    Something different

It’s been many years since I was last here and it occupied some of the day with a busy 5yo Surprisingly, children are free yet Bookme charges for them...

    Well worth a visit

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Edwin Fox Museum. What a full life the ship led - we all came away with a real sense of appreciation. The kids loved getting a feel for the conditions immigrants lived in onboard the ship. A must do while in Picton!

    Well worth a visit

We were in Picton for a couple of days and visiting the Edwin Fox popped up as something to do. So we visited and it was very interesting, We watched a 40 minute video telling the history of the ship, then went out to the old ship and had a good look around. You can walk along the base of the hull plus there are several areas of interest with displays set up. A great piece of history comes to life.. We recommend a visit to the Edwin Fox.
