She had a lot of insights about local plants and the Maori history of the region, and we were lucky to see dolpins while kayaking next to Adele Island. Two weeks ago I did an overnight kayak trip of Doubtful Sound, and I far preferred kayaking Abel Tasman even though the weather was great in both locations. If you’re going to do an overnight trip, do that at Abel Tasman since the beaches are better and there are few sandflies compared to the West Coast. Personally, the day trip provided plenty of scenery and it was so nice to take a shower afterwards, so I think a day trip makes more sense than overnight camping unless you are in New Zealand for 2+ months.
