This out-of-the-ordinary activity offers a great opportunity to learn how to surf in a safe and comfortable environment while your friendly guide ensures you have a great time catching waves.

Akaroa Surf Safaris is the product of more than two decades of surf exploration around the world by husband & wife team Greville & Allie Walsh. With over 40 years of surfing experience between them, these guys really know how to get you riding those waves! This is a much more personalised service that includes expert surf tuition but also a guided tour from a knowledgeable local guide who will provide some great company and stories along the way.

Your safari will begin in Akaroa township. Meet your friendly surf guide opposite Ratatouille Restaurant & The General Peninsula Store on the grass and embark on your safari out to some of the Banks Peninsula hidden gems. Witness the tranquil, stunning eastern bay beaches which are the perfect location for your surf lesson.

Along the way, the guide will share their local knowledge of the area and point out areas of interest. Take in the magnificent views as you make your way to the ultimate surf spot. At the beach, the guide will unload the boards while you put on your warm Quiksilver winter wetsuit.

Your guide will take you through a comprehensive surf lesson and show you the safe, correct and progressive surfing techniques. This includes technique training on the beach which is followed by plenty of water time to practice your new skills in the water while your guide assists you and gives you tips.

After a few hours riding the waves your experience ends with a ride back to the meeting point.
