Waimak River Horse treks is a family-run operation and is the closest horse trek business to Christchurch city.

Located within the Christchurch City limits you can be forgiven for thinking you are in the middle of nowhere.

The lower reaches of the Waimakariri River are noted for their large braided river beds, bird colonies and stunning glacial blue waters!.

Our trails take you past the patchwork paddocks and hedge windbreaks typical of the Canterbury plains, through the lush foliage of the woodlands next to the river and out onto the expansive river

bed.

With the river permitting we will guide you through the crystal clear waters where we can water the horses and enjoy the unique sensation of river crossing on horseback.

Twice as much to see and experience on this two-hour ride!

We have horses to suit all abilities so you can choose the pace that suits you (a leisurely stroll or trot /canter) and soak up the stunning scenery and great riding spaces along the Waimakariri River.

Our experienced guides will lead the way through this beautiful area and take photo's along the way which we can transform into a postcard that you can send home to friends and family!.

On your return enjoy a complimentary cuppa and biscuit with the team and play with or feed our friendly farm animals. We have pet sheep, a goat, sheep dogs, calves and cats and even a foal that will be happy to meet you and have photo's taken with you!.

Awesome trek with Waimak River Riding Centre

Did the 2 hour ride yesterday with Paige, what a fabulous way to spend a Saturday morning. Awesome horse Tono and the knowledge/company of Paige. She offered lots of instruction along the way, she has a lovely manner and clearly loves the horses she works with, especially Chip, her horse yesterday. Great scenery and a walk in the river on the return journey. Also great induction and clear instructions given by Joffe prior to departure on the ride. Not my first visit to this centre and I will be back again soon. Thanks again.

Fantastic!

We were a group of 5 riders, some with little to no experience and some who had ridden a lot but many years ago (we are aged from 28 to 59). We had a fabulous time!! The staff were friendly, helpful, and full of interesting knowledge about the area and the horses. The horses were wonderful - each with their own quirky personality which added immensely to the trek. Highly recommend this outing to anyone considering a horse trek. You only need a little sense of adventure and the ability to listen to all the clear instructions.

Robyn

The scenery is lovely and the horses and guides are also very nice. I am impressed with the condition of the horses and equipment, and they are beautifully shod. We had a trot and a canter and a splash around in the river, I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a nice ride :)
