Orana Wildlife Park
Experience the ultimate animal adventure at Orana Wildlife Park.
Set in 80 hectares, within 15 minutes’ drive of Christchurch airport, Orana is New Zealand’s only open range zoo.
The Park is home to New Zealand’s only gorillas and the country’s only orang-utans too!
Over 400 animals, representing more than 70 species, are displayed at the Park.Regular animal feed presentations occur daily and are accompanied by a presentation from a wildlife guide.
The Park specialises in providing amazing wildlife experiences – travel through the Lion Reserve (costs and conditions apply – please contact us for details), hand feed giraffe, meet rhino up close and observe kiwi. Visitors can also enjoy the antics of tigers, cheetah, Tasmanian devils, monkeys, meerkats and more! The Park has an extensive native fauna section including two large walk-through bird aviaries plus one of the most comprehensive public collections of native geckos.
The Farmyard enables people to meet friendly domestic animals. Visitors can ride on our complimentary Safari Shuttle, join a guided walkabout tour and/or meander around the Park at their leisure.
The Park contains a children’s adventure playground, and two large picnic areas. It’s a full day of fun for the entire family.
Hours: 10am - 5pm Daily

Great day, the feeding times are all mapped out for you and you can easily follow them around the park, the park is huge so if you like to walking then this is a great place for a stroll. You can catch the bus which goes around the park and there are bus stops around the place so if you do get tired. The park has amazing keepers who give great talks and all the staff are friendly. The animals are amazing they look well cared for. There is a great playground for the kids and the café has good food. although they are fixing this up at the moment.

Le parc est très spacieux et bien pensé. Le parcours y est agréable et si vous êtes un peu fatigués il y a une navette pour vous emmener à certains points. Les bénévoles ont l'air de bien s'occuper des animaux, qui ont pour la plupart, de grands enclos. Différents rendez-vous sont possibles afin de voir le nourrissage de certains animaux (heures indiquées) avec des explications données par le personnel qui est très agréable.
