I took my husband and 93 year old mum for a relaxing Boxing Day lunch. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious.
Excellent venue, great views and good service. Akaroa Salmon and Canterbury Lamb cooked to perfection. Garlic Bread starter not so good.
We ordered the Pier Platter for two, which was very poor value for money. It consisted of only two prawns, two samosas, two nuggets, and two onion rings, with the majority of the platter being fries/wedges. The Salt and Pepper Calamari was not genuine calamari, lacked flavour, and was below an acceptable standard. Salts Big Breakfast had literally just 4 baked beans hidden under the eggs. The Surf and Turf steak was requested rare but arrived well done. The accompanying mussels were unacceptable — only two were served, one of which was an empty shell, while the other still contained mussel waste. We also ordered two Kiwi Beef Burgers; unfortunately, the patties were raw and cold on the inside. After raising our concerns, the manager eventually agreed — after significant discussion — not to charge us for the Kiwi Burgers and the Pier Platter. Given the number and severity of the issues, this felt like the minimum response rather than a genuine effort to resolve the situation. The overall service remained poor, and the manager was dismissive rather than receptive to feedback. Additionally, there was a noticeable and unpleasant pungent smell in the first-floor dining area. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and we would not recommend this venue.
Awesome service and food was amazing. Been here plenty of times for lunch but this time it was noticeably different, must be new chef and they were on point , Honestly cant wait to go back to see if I was luckily cause it was really that good , ordered the chicken bre bacon open sandwich, highly recommend , actually all the meals that went passed me look amazing , all empty plates , def well done to the new chef.

The upstairs was closed so we were a bit disappointed. But the food was yummy and service was good. Except for having to come up to the counter to order instead of helpers coming to you. Place needs a good refresh.
