We ordered the mixed entrée platter to start. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark. The fish cakes were very chewy and the flavour wasn’t particularly pleasant. The chicken satay was extremely dry and quite hard, making it difficult to swallow. The rest of the platter – including the spring rolls and money bags – felt as though they’d come straight from the supermarket freezer, rather than being freshly prepared in-house.
To be honest, after our rather sad experience with the entrée platter, our confidence in the meal — and our appetite for the mains — had pretty much disappeared.
Therefore we decided to order just one main. dish: the Authentic Thai beef meatball noodle soup. And it was so underwhelming, tasted like plain noodles in lukewarm water with just salt and pepper, a few vegetables, and meatballs pieces of overcooked meat thrown in. It lacked the rich flavour and depth you would expect from an authentic Thai soup.
To top it all they tried to even overcharge for Monteith’s Crushed Apple Cider.
Overall, we left feeling very disappointed. The food did not meet expectations in terms of quality, flavour, authenticity or even hospitality. That cool kiwi vibe was missing. We were genuinely hoping for a much better experience.
