There’s no better way to experience Dunedin’s marine wildlife than by kayak!

Departing Wellers Rock, we embark on a fascinating trip out to Taiaroa Head to see the Royal Albatross.

Taiaroa Head is extremely special - it is the only mainland breeding colony in the World for these amazing birds.

Your friendly and experienced guide will share their knowledge with you throughout the trip, giving you fantastic insight into the lives of the Albatross & wildlife and history of the peninsula.

Along the way to Taiaroa Head you’re likely to see many other marine birds & wildlife including the little Blue Penguins, Fur Seals and Sea Lions, Shag colonies and the Royal Spoon Bill!

The trip can take anywhere between 1.5 – 3 hours depending on fitness levels and how long you are wanting to spend on the water.

An absolute must do for lovers of nature, wildlife and the outdoors and a simply stunning way to see Dunedin!

From Dunedin drive towards Taiaroa Head, past Portobello and you will see us on your right beside Eden Café, 2 km before Taiaroa Heads.

Hatte mehr erwartet

Nach Ankündigung und Bewertungen hatte ich erwartet, wir würden etwas intensiver mit der Tierwelt in Kontakt kommen. Einen Seal aus einer Entfernung sehen, aus der man nicht mal fotografieren kann, ist da doch eher enttäuschend. Ich meine, klar können die das nicht beeinflussen, aber letztlich haben sie wesentlich mehr versprochen als sie am Ende gehalten haben. Ich würde die Tour eher nicht weiterempfehlen, da das beste an der ganzen Sache die Hunde der Veranstalter waren. Ich bin extra aus Queenstown angereist, um bei dieser Tour Albatrosse zu sehen. Die waren so weit entfernt, dass ich sie nicht mal von meiner To-do-Liste streichen kann, abgesehen davon, dass wir Glück hatten, sie überhaupt zu Gesicht zu bekommen. Alles in allem: ich würde es definitiv nicht nochmal buchen.

Sehr empfehlenswerte Kajaktour

Wer gerne die Tierwelt der Otago Peninsula mal nicht von Land oder einem Ausflugsboot aus sehen möchte, dem sei diese Kajaktour empfohlen. Man fährt mit dem Kajak von Wellers Rock die Küste entlang bis knapp unterhalb der Albatroskolonie und über die See wieder zurück. Die Dauer hängt etwas von der Geschwindigkeit ab, mit der man paddeln kann und vor allem auch vom Wind. Während der Fahrt kann man den Erläuterungen des Tourguides folgen und alle möglichen Tiere beobachten. Es hat schon etwas, wenn Robben um das Kajak rumschwimmen und man aus nächster Nähe betrachten kann, was für elegante Schwimmer das sind. Wir hatten auch Glück, dass hin und wieder blaue Pinguine neben uns auftauchten. Einfach faszinierend. Ich kann die Kajaktour dieses kleinen Familienunternehmens wärmstens empfehlen!

Great Kayak trip at Otago Peninsula

We had a great trip with the guys from Eden Wildlife Cruises. We saw wildlife such as seelions, penguins and albatrosses from real close and had a lot of fun kayaking along the shore of Otago Peninsula.
