Learn about the rarest penguin in the world, the hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin) and experience the best possibility to view one of these endangered birds. We will begin with an overview of the work we are doing to help save the hoiho and care for all living species at The OPERA. Guests will then be guided through our reserve which is home to numerous native plant and wildlife species including the hoiho and kororā (little penguins), fur seals, sea lions, and several species of sea and forest birds. Finally, when penguins are in our care, guests will visit our Penguin Rehabilitation Center, where they can see these rare birds up close. .

The best way to see these elusive animal!
We saw sea lions from a distance, fur seals up close, 2 little blue penguins in borrows, and we were lucky enough to see one yellow-eyed penguin come to shore!

Fantastic experience and the best on the peninsula
We saw blue and yellow eyed penguins as well as sea lions and fur seals and other birds in this fantastic setting. The guide was excellent.

Penguins !
What an amazing conversation centre! My 7-year-old and I went on this tour, and it was so fun. We had a perfect, sunny winter day. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. We only had a brief sighting, but it was still a great day. (This is why it's not 5 stars, but really that is no fault of OPERA) I highly recommend this adventure with children, as long as they can walk about 2k and can spend some time waiting for the penguins to emerge from the sea. I will return sometime, and I am grateful for the incredible work OPERA is doing.

Penguins
It's amazing despite of the bad weather. We spotted 7 penguins!

Awesome afternoon
Awesome afternoon seeing 2 different penguins. One in the rehab and one in the natural environment. It was great fun and highly recommend if in Dunedin
