Get amongst the great outdoors and explore one of New Zealand's Great Cycle Trails - the Lake Dunstan Cycling Trail.

Watch as Central Otago flaunts its natural beauty, starting at the quaint Heritage township of Cromwell where your journey begins.

Take your time cycling along the Grade 1 - 3 trail which covers 42km alongside the beautiful waterside of Lake Dunstan, Kawarau River and the Clutha River. Teeming with history from the bygone gold rush days, there is something interesting to discover at every turn!

When you've completed the trail you'll enjoy a convenient scenic shuttle back to Cromwell after an epic day out.

MINIMUM NUMBER OF RIDERS TO PROCEED IS 2
Please Note: All riders should be physically fit, competent and confident riders. This is a self-guided trip so you can progress along the trail at your own speed, taking frequent stops to enjoy the fantastic views and overall experience. The trail is grade 1-3 with a mixture of gravel trails, boardwalks and dirt tracks.
There is no road access to the trail for the last 25km so you will need to be properly prepared for this ride.
We do not recommend bringing riders under 15 years old on this experience. At times there are narrow trails with steep drops alongside. All riders should be competent, confident and safe riders.
Location Stops: There are 4 potential stops on this ride. These are 1) the Cromwell Heritage precinct where you will start very close to so we don't recommend stopping this early, 2) the Carrick Winery (carrick.co.nz), Coffee Afloat (coffeeafloat.co.nz for menu and opening times, 21km into the ride just before the 2 big hills that your e-bike will nicely push you up!) and 4) the Historic town of Clyde with lots of Heritage Cafe's. Our recommendation is a very short 10 minute stop at the Carrick Winery for drinks and snacks, followed by a 30 minute stop at @coffeeafloatnz/@burgerafloat and then hopefully you will still have time to enjoy Clyde dependent on your progress prior to your pickup at Clyde to return.
E-Bikes: We only hire new well maintained premium e-bikes from New Zealand's Sinch brand. These bikes will 'support' your riding style up to 32km/h and have a range designed to easily complete this ride.

Lake Dunstan Trail

Ian was incredibly helpful with getting us started on the e bikes. We loved the trail and the engineering of the cantilevered sections that s impressive. Ian gave us a very helpful history of the area based on his experiences during our trip back. Highly recommended.

Perfect way to spend a day in Cromwell

My wife and I rented their e-bikes and had the best time. The service was top notch! The bikes were waiting for us at the meeting point, and the van was waiting for us to collect the bikes and transferred us back at the end point. Everything was smooth with zero glitch. Will definitely rent the bikes from them again the next time we visit Cromwell.

Challenging and rewarding.

We rode the trail yesterday and appreciated the thoughtful attention of our facilitator, Luke. The hills and sometimes narrow trails certainly were a challenge, but the views and long downhill sections were our reward.

We rode e-bikes and they made the hills easier, so we could really enjoy the ride. The scenery is absolutely stunning the whole way—lake, cliffs, and wide open views. The bike operator was professional, friendly, and very helpful, which made the day completely stress-free. Highly recommend this trail, especially with e-bikes!
