Explore the heart of Queenstown's wine country on this 4-hour self-guided e-bike adventure through the stunning Gibbston Valley. Starting from the iconic Kawarau Bungy Centre, you'll collect your premium e-bike and set off along the picturesque Gibbston River Trail, surrounded by rugged mountains, vineyards, and the turquoise waters of the Kawarau River.

With the assistance of an e-bike, you'll effortlessly cruise between some of Central Otago's most celebrated wineries. Visit renowned cellar doors such as Gibbston Valley Winery, Kinross, Mt Rosa, Brennan Wines, and Rockburn, where you can enjoy wine tastings, meet local winemakers, and discover why the region is world-famous for Pinot Noir. Many wineries also offer delicious lunch options, cheese boards, and beautiful outdoor spaces perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine and taking in the views.

The trail is easy to follow and mostly flat, allowing you to spend less time pedalling and more time enjoying the wineries and scenery. Covering approximately 18km at your own pace, this flexible experience is the perfect way to combine cycling, wine tasting, and some of the best landscapes in the Queenstown region.

Itinerary

  • 11:00am – Check In & E-Bike Collection Arrive at the Kawarau Bungy Centre and meet the team for a quick e-bike fitting, safety briefing, and trail overview. You'll receive a map highlighting the wineries, cafés, and attractions along the route.
  • 11:15am – Begin Your Gibbston Valley Ride Set off along the scenic Gibbston River Trail, following easy, mostly flat paths through vineyards, mountain landscapes, and alongside the Kawarau River.
  • 11:45am - 2:30pm – Explore the WineriesPopular stops include Gibbston Valley Winery, Kinross, Mt Rosa, Brennan Wines, and Rockburn. Enjoy wine tastings, relax over a cheese board, or stop for lunch at one of the winery restaurants (own expense).
  • 2:30pm – Leisurely Return Ride Make your way back along the trail, taking in the spectacular scenery and stopping for photos along the way.
  • 3:00pm – Return Your E-Bike Arrive back at the Kawarau Bungy Centre and return your e-bike, bringing your Gibbston Valley adventure to a close.

Location

  • The Kawarau Bungy Centre is located on State Highway 6 at the Kawarau Bridge, about halfway between Queenstown and Cromwell.
  • From Queenstown there are two main routes:
  • From Queenstown: It’s around a 25-minute drive (23 km) via State Highway 6.
  • From Cromwell: Allow around 30 minutes (27 km) via State Highway 6.
  • Parking: Free parking is available onsite for visitors.
