A Rotorua Must Do - Daytime for Nature!

Highlights

  • A stunning walk high amongst the majestic redwood trees – a Rotorua must do!
  • Featuring 700 metres of suspended bridges & living platforms within the 120 year old Redwood forest.

Walk high amongst the majestic redwoods trees. Feel the spirit of Rotorua’s iconic Redwood Forest from above and up close to these 120-year-old gentle giants.

This suspended ecological walk provides a unique bird’s eye perspective of the forest, capturing its picturesque beauty and ambience. From 700 metres long, the one of a kind New Zealand treewalk consists of a series of 27 suspension bridges which traverse between 28 majestic 120-year-old Redwood Trees. From 9 metres to 20 metres above the forest at its peak, the walkway has been specifically designed and constructed to preserve the trees, plants and the surrounding natural environment.

The walkway has been uniquely constructed using a New Zealand-first technologically designed sling, which is suspended from the redwood trees. This ecological walk is perfect as a wet weather activity with the stunning colours of the forest coming to life in the rain.

Enjoy at your own pace with no safety harness or training required and appreciate the peacefulness and spirit of this special forest. Leave feeling inspired, refreshed and rejuvenated!..

A Magical Stroll Among the Giants – My Redwoods Treewalk Experience I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling of walking high above the forest floor, suspended between ancient redwoods that seemed to touch the sky. Visiting the Redwoods Treewalk in Rotorua was one of the most breathtaking experiences I’ve had in New Zealand — something I didn’t realize would leave such a deep impression until I found myself walking the entire route twice, completely enchanted. The moment we stepped onto the first suspension bridge, I felt like we had entered a different world. The air was cool and fresh, the forest floor far below us, and the towering Californian redwoods standing silently all around like wise old guardians. It’s hard to describe the peace that filled me as we slowly moved from platform to platform — 28 bridges in total, strung up between these giants with such thoughtful care that not a single nail touches the trees. I kept looking up, then down, then all around, trying to take in the surreal beauty from every angle. What impressed me most was how gentle the whole experience felt. Even though we were walking high up in the canopy, it never felt rushed or commercialized. There were beautiful storyboards placed along the way, quietly sharing insights about the forest, the history of the redwoods, and even Māori cultural perspectives on the land. It made the walk not only visually stunning but emotionally rich — we felt connected to the place in a deeper way. My family loved it so much that we immediately knew one round wasn't enough. We went again, this time walking slower, stopping more often to take it all in. The way the sunlight filtered through the trees, casting soft, shifting shadows across the walkway, made it feel like a living painting. It was peaceful, rejuvenating — a moment where time seemed to slow down. As incredible as the daytime walk was, we kept talking about how magical it must be at night. The Treewalk transforms after dark with the Redwoods Nightlights experience, where art, nature, and technology come together under the stars. I had read about the stunning lanterns designed by David Trubridge, hanging like glowing jellyfish among the trees. Seeing pictures online is one thing — but knowing I’ll be back to see it in person makes me genuinely excited. This was more than just a walk. It was a reminder of how beautiful our world can be when nature is respected and celebrated. It’s the kind of place you want to share with people you love — and the kind of memory you know will stay with you long after you leave. I can’t wait to return for the night walk — next time, I’ll make sure we book in advance. If you're heading to Rotorua, please don’t miss the chance to experience the Redwoods Treewalk. It’s not just an activity; it’s an awe-inspiring journey among giants.
