Super informative, interesting and educational! Loved the presentation by our tour guide, Dan. He was also engaging and easy to talk. Hope others get to do this experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour, great value for money. Small group of 6 people. Our guide John was awesome. He lived in the village and regaled us with childhood memories. We learnt so much about the Maori culture and history of the area. His personal input made the tour memorable. Would thoroughly recommend this experience.
Wonderful experience in a real and authentic village
My husband and I visited the Maori Village in Rotorua on our honeymoon vacation in October 2025. The tour was guided by a woman who actually lives in the village and she told us about the Maori traditions and the steaming sulfur pools and how they are still used for cooking. We were invited to eat a piece of sweet corn being cooked in hot sulfur water and it was delicious. The scent of the sulfur springs is quite unusual but still it is a very interesting experience. In the village you may have the chance to see the hydrothermal explosion of the Pohutu geyser (we weren’t lucky). For those who are interested in the Maori culture this village is a must-do. Just be prepared for the intense sulfur scent and a lot of Maori vocabulary. We certainly had a good time and recommend it to everyone!

Highly recommend
I booked a 12pm guided tour interested to learn about this tribes history and way of life. In the end I was fortunate enough to be the only person on my tour with the most amazing guide. Every explanation was thorough and personalized to relate to my own knowledge and culture (Irish). Well worth doing in Rotorua. Definitely go early to explore the history room!
