Swap the city rush for salty air and wide open views on Auckland’s most striking coastal gems!
This relaxed guided day trip invites you to slow down and take in the wild beauty of Bethells Beach (Te Henga), from its sweeping black sand shaped by ancient volcanic forces to the powerful Tasman Sea. Hear local stories along the way and experience the true spirit of Aotearoa (New Zealand) in a calm and authentic setting. If conditions allow, explore coastal caves and dunes while enjoying the fresh west coast air.
The journey also includes visits to boutique wineries and an independent brewery like Hallertau Brewery and Lavender Hill, offering a glimpse into the region’s vibrant local scene. Mark and Pip were incredible hosts — welcoming, fun. It didn’t feel like a tour at all, more like spending the day exploring with friends. They took me to hidden spots I never would have found on my own, and I loved every second of it! 100% recommended — would do it again!

Hidden gems
I wanted to get to see Te Henga (Bethell's Beach) but didn't have a rental car. I found Funky Bunch tours and I am so glad I did. Mark and Pip took me to where I wanted to go and showed me places only a local would know. We visited Te Henga, (beautiful black sand beach), some sand dunes and a local brewery with delicious local food and beer. Mark and Pip are genuinely kind, lovely people with lots of knowledge of NZ and the film industry there. A highlight of my unforgettable trip to New Zealand.
