Kayak into the night to experience the natural wonder of glowworms as they light up in the dark!
Join Riverside Adventures Waikato for a magical evening kayaking the calm waters of Lake Karapiro and the Pokaiwhenua Stream.
Starting our paddle from the southern edge of Lake Karapiro, your guide will fill you in on the interesting history of the Horahora village as the sun begins to set.
We will make our way slowly up the Pokaiwhenua Stream and through a canyon hundreds of years old whilst enjoying stunning views of native trees and ferns.
Once darkness falls - the magic begins - as thousands of glowworms come to life, sparkling on either side of you like constellations in the night sky.

The sunset glow worm kayak tour was fabulous. We were lucky to just have a small group of 3. Our guide was excellent, informative and helpful. The paddle up stream was serene and cruisy. The glow worms in the canyon put on a marvelous show too! Highly recommend this activity! Thank you!
Such an awesome experience, guys don’t miss this one if you love kayaking.

We had a great time on the kayak tour- the guides are so passionate, friendly and knowledgable! We felt completely safe at all times and the experience was like no other- the kayaking was fun itself and seeing the glow worms was out of this world!

A great experience
It was surreal to kayak at night on the riverside of Waikato! You start just before sunset to enjoy it, go through a man-made lake, before going to a little stream that goes through a lovely canyon. Our guide, Mac, was perfect, guiding us through the history of the site and kayaking on top of a submerged powerhouse! Crazy! It was a bit cold, but nothing that couldn't be cured by some hot drink and snacks (included in the service). And you finish by cruising through the canyon where all the glowworms are, incredible! And bonus, we were only 3 during our tour, so it felt really special. Thnaks again!
