I cannot recommend Whakarewarewa more highly! A beautiful museum inside that describes Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao history, Mount Tarawera and their famous wāhine guides. The guided tour was amazing! Personal anecdotes and mātauranga Māori and humour at its finest! 10/10
Good activity with some interesting facts about Maori culture.
The guided tour through the Maori village was excellent. Our guide, John, did a wonderful job of describing cooking, bathing, cultural practices, and their respect for ecology. We even sampled corn cooked in the traditional way. The live cultural performance was icing on the cake! The grounds included the village, gift shop, cafe and restrooms. Everything was immaculate!

Insightful and informative
Learned a lot about the history of this village and current practices - the hour went by really quickly, even though the experience was not rushed at all. My guide emphasized the cooking, communal bathing practices and diverse religions of community. We got to taste some corn boiled in the alkaline hot spring, and they let you stay as long as you like in the village to take a closer look at the church, meeting house, and wait for the geyers to spout. Highly recommend!
