Immerse yourself in a tropical butterfly house and travel back in time when dinosaurs ruled and visit the Dinosaur Kingdom with over 40 dinosaurs, some even life-sized, roaring and moving, you'll be amazed! See mermaids, unicorns and dragons come alive in our Mythic Creatures exhibit, and meet our adorable meerkats, tamarins and otters.

Visit Kiwi Forest and see NZ Brown Kiwi, Wetapunga and other native species, plus meet Scar and Goldie, NZ's only saltwater crocodiles. We have alligators, and you can visit Buttermilk Farm, and get up close to our cute farm animals for a hands-on experience. Sit down for some home-made food at the Butterfly Creek Cafe, or relax while your children play in the free playground or ride The Admiral Express Train.

Dinosaur Kingdom - The first of its kind in the New Zealand with real life moving dinosaurs, some up to 23 metres in length.
Mythic Creatures - see the world’s most fantastical legends come to life, Dragons, Unicorns, Serpents, Aliens, Mermaids, Jack & the Beanstalk and more amazing creatures.
NZ's only Saltwater Crocodiles - Meet Scar and Goldie in their awesome enclosure for a close-up view of these impressive beasts.
Kiwi Forest & Friends – Spot our brown kiwi in their nocturnal kiwi house, plus see cute otters and hundreds of squirmy eels.
Butterfly House - Walk amongst tropical butterflies, some will even land on you. Plus see turtles, fish, iguana and other tropical reptiles.
Buttermilk Farm - This highly interactive farmyard is a great way to get up close and feed your favourite farmyard animals such as baby rabbits, guinea pigs, Angora and mixed breed goats, alpacas and pigs.
Bugs - Meet some of the largest insects in the world such as the mighty Wetapunga and the awesome Tarantula.
Aquarium - New Zealand's largest tropical fresh-water aquaria and NZ's largest marine coral aquaria - both teeming with a wide variety of fascinating fish.
Reptiles - Get up close to fascinating reptiles including the American Alligator, Blue Tongue Lizard, native geckos and Bearded Dragons!
The Butterfly Creek Café also offers a wide range of tasty homemade food and don't forget to ride The Admiral Express train or play in one of our awesome outdoor playgrounds.

You must arrive on the specified time of your booking.
Family passes are priced as if purchased individually, discounts are shown from this rate.
Opening Hours:
Term Time Weekdays :
Open Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from 9.30am to 4.00pm (last entry 3.00pm)
Weekends, Public Holidays & School Holidays hours:
Open from 9.30am to 5.00pm (last entry 4.00pm) on weekends (Saturday and Sundays).
Open 7 days a week during school holidays.
Open all public holidays except for Christmas and Boxing Day when we are closed.
Important information:
Deals do not include the train ride - this is an additional $4.00.
Deals are only valid for the date and time selected and cannot be changed.
Please be on time for your booking and have your Bookme ticket ready on arrival.
Discounted tickets are only valid for admission at the specified times. We will allow a 30 minute leeway period on either side of the allocated time otherwise you will be required to pay the difference up to full price.
Refund Policy:
No refunds within 24 hours of visiting unless Butterfly Creek cancels the activity due to waterway, road or weather conditions. Otherwise, refunds are granted solely at the discretion of Butterfly Creek & may incur a 5% admin fee.
General Terms & Conditions:
Butterfly Creek (including respective employees, agents, officers and directors) exclude, to the fullest extent possible under law, all and any liability for any loss, damage or injury (whether direct or indirect or consequential, however arising) suffered by the Guest or any person associated with the Guest in relation to the booked activity. All activities have elements of risk and all guests undertaking any Activity do so voluntarily and at their own risk. To the extent permitted by applicable laws, all warranties, representations and implied terms are also excluded.
Butterfly Creek reserves all rights to cancel any Activity at its discretion for (but not limited to) any of the following reasons: a) waterway, road or weather conditions; b) lack of numbers participating in the Activity; c) unsuitability of Guest(s) due to reasons such as intoxication or any other reasons rendering a Guest unsuitable or unfit to participate in the Activity; d) any other circumstances which are beyond the reasonable control of Butterfly Creek. All Guests agree to adhere to any instructions in relation to the Activity from Butterfly Creek at all times. These terms are subject to rights and remedies you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 2003.

Interactive fun

We came as a family, dad needing a wheelchair with no issues. We found the staff friendly, and helpful. Lots to see, for young and old. Take your time, and take everything in.

Superb experience and reception

Great value experince with friends, multiple activites throughout day keep the visit engaging, wide range of interactive opportunities with variety of animals. Fun and friendly for a wide range of visitors of all ages!

Butterfly Creek

Aimed at younger kids although my teens and I loved the butterfly house! Stopping for a cold drink in the cafe at 3:20 to be told the kitchen was closed and they wouldn’t make smoothies after 3pm - a bit disappointing. The food and drinks are expensive for what they are. The iced chocolate was very watery.

It's a nice place but with that sort of cost you can visit zoo too. Ticket price should have been around $20.

Our ticket prices are comparable with many other family attractions around Auckland, and with the "early bird" tickets you purchased, the pricing is lower than many other attractions. Unlike the zoo, we do not receive any ratepayer funding and ticket purchases contribute directly to our operations.
