The Cardona Valley is the ultimate location for stargazing, devoid of light pollution and nestled in the centre of the Southern Alps.

First up is the naked eye astronomy tour - here your guide will talk you through the stunning celestial sights of this world-famous location including fascinating information of the southern sky, constellations and movement of planets!

For the second part of evening, you’ll be using a telescope to delve deeper, uncovering star clusters & nebulae, The Highlands, Maria & craters of our Moon, The moons of Jupiter, Rings of Saturn, Binary stars and other galaxies while your guide talks you through each one.

We also supply hot chocolate and cosy Canada Goose down jackets to keep you warm during the tour.

A fascinating and truly unique way to experience one of New Zealand’s most spectacular displays of natural beauty!

Duration

  • Allow approximately 90 minutes for the whole experience

Location

  • Self-drive guests will need to drive up a 14km alpine gravel road to get to the resort for your stargazing experience. Give yourself plenty of time and maintain 2-way traffic at all times.

Restrictions

  • Minimum age: 12

Bad Weather Refunds

  • If your experience is cancelled by the operator (because of the bad weather, safety concerns, unscheduled maintenance etc) you will be entitled to a full refund.

Notes

  • Due to the tour taking place late at night, we do not recommend it for small children. Minimum traveller age 12. This product can be cancelled due to bad weather. Please provide us with a contact number so that you can be notified with tour status..

  • This tour is not recommended for small children.

    Arrive 30 minutes early to ensure you have plenty of time to get ready.

    You will need to drive up a 14km alpine gravel road to get to the resort for your stargazing experience. Give yourself plenty of time & maintain 2-way traffic at all times. It will be pretty chilly up on the mountain at night, so bring plenty of layers. We can provide jackets if needed.

    Stargazing is subject to weather conditions. A call will be made by 5pm each day & you will be informed if the tour is not running as scheduled.
