Explore the quaint village of Arrowtown before you ride at your own pace along the stunning Queenstown Trail to the shores of Lake Wakatipu and into Queenstown Bay!
Starting with a 25-minute scheduled bus departure from Around The Basin's shop to Arrowtown. Once you arrive, we'll provide you with everything you need for this self-guided adventure ride: a top-notch mountain bike or E-bike with a helmet, a detailed briefing on the route, and our handy trail map for navigation. Take some time to explore Arrowtown, a historic settlement from the Gold Rush era, or grab a coffee to kickstart your day.
The journey kicks off by following the Arrow River Trail downstream to the Morven Ferry, crossing the river on breathtaking bridges. Then, you'll join the Twin Rivers Trail, tracing the Kawarau and Shotover rivers to the shores of Lake Whakatipu. Enjoy stunning alpine views as you traverse the foothills of The Remarkables mountains. Even the Old Shotover Bridge, standing for over a century, offers remarkable views of two ski areas.
The final leg of the journey is a relaxed trail along the lake's edge, passing cafés and a brewery before reaching central Queenstown. This ride covers wide gravel trails, graded 2 or 3, with a minimum distance of 35 KM and a few challenging hills. Plan for 3-4 hours of biking on average.
Confident riders with good fitness will enjoy this ride, but we recommend an Electric-bike upgrade for those tackling the bigger hills. Rest assured, you're in good hands with Around The Basin, Queenstown's most experienced bike tour operator!

First Time Bike ride in Queenstown
We cycled from Arrowtown. Everything was so well organized. The bikes were of a high standard. We got the e bikes which are well worth the upgrade. The bike ride itself was absolutely breathtaking. The only downside is that because it's so beautiful I found myself stopping around every corner to take pictures. Would 100% do again but try the wine tour next time. Great value for money too.
