A journey on a Clutha River Heritage Cruise (brought to you by Clutha River Cruises) brings Central Otago's Golden history to life, connecting people to the more isolated reaches of the mighty Clutha River, where some of New Zealand's best preserved gold mining remains dating back to the 1860's are situated.
Sit back and relax on a super-comfortable pontoon craft on a 2.5 hour trip back in time, experience powerful landscapes, schist-clad ranges and vibrant colours.
Discover tailings, water races, mining equipment, stone masonry, old miner's huts and more...
Guide and skipper Laurence's passion and enthusiasm makes for a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining trip. He will transport you and your imagination back in time as he points out the array of Chinese and European miners' huts and rock shelters, following the trail they took in their quest for gold, flocking in their thousands from all over the world, willing to risk everything to seek their fortunes.
Along the way a stop off at Doctors Point Gold Mine gives the opportunity to explore huts and relics and get a real insight into the Goldfields. After a tour of the gold mine it is time to relax on the banks of the river and enjoy some tea/coffee and home made muffins before departing on a leisurely return cruise to Alexandra, once again taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Amazing
It was an amazing experience on super sunny day. We didnt had sunblock with us but captain was kind and offered some. Muffins and cold orange juice in gold mines was awesome!

Great Tour
We had a small group so very intimate. Laurence had tons of knowledge on the area and is very friendly. As a local I enjoyed the trip and would recommend to others.
