WORTH THE EXTRA

Cold wet day. Could not have been better excccept maybe a little warmer. The staff were great. DAn and Sara were informative, friendly and helpful. Waterfalls were everywhere. Dolphins came, put on a wonderful show. We were lucky and were able to go close to the Tasman Sea.

Doubtful vs Milford?

Right of the bat: I enjoyed Milford Sound so much more. And I had a partially cloudy, mostly sunny day on both occasions. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Doubtful. It's quiet, beautiful and the boat/bus there and back are a real joy as well. Though Doubtful is bigger in square km, I found Milford to be much more dramatic. The one crack you sail through there is much more grand, steep and awe inspiring than Doubtful. I didn't even mind the other boats. I actually wanted them to be in my pictures because without them you cannot fathom how huge Milford actually is. Want a quiet trip? Go to Doubtful Sound. But if you want to witness the most stunning scenery in New Zealand? Go to Milford Sound.

Thanks for the review Stefan! Both places are beautiful and each have their own charm. Doubtful is definitely a lot more quiet with less operators and much harder to access. Very glad to hear you enjoyed both trips and we hope to see you travel with us again in the future

Superb day trip

Best tour I did in the South Island. Crossing Lake Manapouri was magical - and Doubtful Sound is so peaceful and beautiful

Thanks for sharing the lovely photos of the sound Karen! Doubtful Sound is an unmissable trip if you're visiting fiordland. The journey across lake Manapouri is an experience in itself and Doubtful Sound is certainly valued for its peaceful surroundings :)
