If you have dreamt of flying, you can make your dreams come true at iFLY in their state-of-the-art skydiving wind tunnel. Defy gravity with skill and style in their convenient Queenstown location.
Have you always wanted to try skydiving but don’t want to risk jumping out of an actual, moving plane? Try indoor skydiving at iFLY Queenstown, where you can experience all the plummeting, free-fall and soaring sensations of skydiving without even getting on a plane.
This indoor skydiving experience puts you in a vertical wind tunnel, so you can float weightlessly in space and feel the thrill of a simulated skydive. While you freefall you’ll experience an unforgettable adrenaline rush in totally safe surroundings.
First, you arrive at iFLY and get geared up, you will be fitted into a flight suit, get your helmet strapped on and adjust your protective goggles to fit. With the guidance of their ultra-compassionate instructors, you’ll receive an introductory training session so you can get the most out of your adventure and then it’s time to step into the wind tunnel.
The instructor accompanies you inside so that they can assist you during your flight. Next, you’re lifted off your feet as the chamber fills with rushing wind. Remember what you learned during training to help achieve proper technique as you hover above the ground and spin through the air. Once you nail the basics, the wind tunnel can become your playground, enjoy the thrilling flight before touching back down on solid ground and catch your breath so that you can do it all over again.
So how does it work?
A vertical wind tunnel has fans at the top to draw air through the flight chamber and then push it back down the sides through Return Air Towers (RATs). The air is ‘turned’ from the RATs into the bottom of the tunnel (plenum) and back up toward the flight chamber through an inlet contractor. The inlet contractor reduces the space the air can travel in, thus compressing and speeding up the air before it re-enters the flight chamber. The result: a smooth column of air that enables you to fly.
Fun activity for whole family, awesome pre sky diving experience
The instructors were great, and it was a fun experience, but no where in the description explained that the price on $250 total for two people was for 2 minutes each in the flying dome. Extremely disappointed and would definitely not recommend.
This was a poor experience and the briefing was very short and the two flights were very expensive and the flights were too close to the ground an d you had to pay an additional $20 to fly higher . Not good value . l
