Milfordsounds trip

We got of to a shacky start we were running for the bus and couldn't find it at the wharf and the left with out is so we had to pay $35 to get a taxi to Frankston which was a bit of an inconvenience as they were doing a second pick up at the meillinum hotel, I understand the bus needs to leave on time but the guy on the phone said they are waiting when they had left. Bit disappointing!! But over all the bus tour was great I really liked Lou our bus driver was fabulous she was very organised and clear with instructions. The best part was her knowledge of the surrounding area and her beautiful story telling voice that was very calming in the crazy weather we indured along the way. Thank you.

Do it!!

Incredible experience with the Southern Discoveries team and Definitely worth doing! Our driver Lou was fantastic all day and kept us all entertained even when the bus had a meltdown on the way back to Queenstown. The cruise crew had their work cut out feeding us all but did a great job looking after everyone.

great experience

day trip to milford sound, it will takes a whole day and you won't be able to do other activity, unless dinner. The bus is good, our driver give lots of information about New Zealand and what bouts. Lunch is good, a bit crowded but the option is plenty and we don't running out of it. Whole trip feels a bit rushed, especially in several photo stop. Also the cruise trip is short, for the amount of time you spend on the road for this, you'll hope you will stay longer at milford sound, to enjoy the view and such. But the weather is good and we can see sea lions. The waterfall experience is priceless! Luckily we got the discounted price so it worth.

Long day with some great views

Asked for pickup from hotel or nearby but was told no, so we paid $30 for taxi from Frankton to Queenstown center only to find that once we boarded the tour bus we had to go back to Frankton to pick up other passengers so this gave us a sour start to the day. Didn't get back to Queenstown until 8pm so be prepared for a late dinner. It was a large part of the day on the bus but there were plenty of stops for photos along the way except there were 2 other tour companies with full buses stopping at every stop we did so there was some competition for photo spots and a line for toilets. Milford Sound is nice but it's a long day for an hour cruise. Our driver, Russel, was great.

Good but not great

The good was that the cruise was fantastic, even in very rough weather, and the buffet wasn't bad considering the amount of people on board. The service was also good. The not so good was that the initial contact (receptionist in the office) was not welcoming or very friendly and while the driver gave interesting commentary, the drive back to Queenstown was way too fast and scary, particularly given the bad weather conditions.(having to stick to a schedule I suppose) We weren't thrilled at the coffee stop in Te Anau either, given that we are animal lovers. It was hunting themed, with heads and photos all around the place. We understand there are not many places to stop and there are a lot of buses stopping, but forewarning would have been good, so we could go elsewhere. If you can get this discount, we would recommend, but I would go with another company if paying full price!
