Great bikes, good time riding out around lake Wakatipu.
We hired two bikes for half a day. A half day consists of 4 hours of rental at whatever time of day you want to take it. I loved that flexibility! We rode from the bike shop to the trail around Queenstown garden and then along the Queenstown Trail to Frankton where we stopped for lunch at a cafe called Odelay(a great little cafe opposite the Remarkables Park shopping centre which is not actually on the trail but nearby) We then rode down Riverside Rd to join the Twin Rivers Trail all the way to Lake Hayes Estate. It was a bit far really and we were exhausted by the time we got there. In retrospect, we should have stopped at Lower Shotover where I later saw a bus stop (Tucker Beach Road Bus Stop.) Thankfully we were able to catch the bus at Lake Hayes Estate and put our bikes on the special bike racks on the front and travel back to Queenstown on the bus rather than ride. Thank goodness for the bus! My advice is ..... always hire the full suspension bikes. We hired one 'Hard Tail' and one 'Full Suspension' and the hard tail one was really tough on your body as you went over bumps etc. It's definitely worth the extra money (only a few dollars more) for the full suspension. The most spectacular section of the ride was between Frankton and the Shotover bridge. It was glorious riding alongside the Kawarau river with snow-capped mountains in the distance. It really was special! Overall we loved the day despite being rather sore the next day from the hard seats. ?
Haven't rode a bike in 20years! And I loved it. Team was great. The scenery was breathtaking.
