Your hosts, Wildlight NZ, have exclusive access to Mt Alfred so you’ll be able to escape the crowds and have the entire mountain to yourself.

At the summit, soak up breathtaking 360 degree views of the Wakatipu region and its surrounds. Views of snow-capped peaks, braided river systems, sparkling lakes and ancient rain forest can be enjoyed from the summit, undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest viewing platforms.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Queenstown along the beautiful Lake Wakatipu shoreline to the base of Mt Alfred. Take a 3 to 4 hour climb to the summit through beautiful farmland before reaching the summit and rewarding yourself with a cup of tea and hearty picnic lunch.

On the 2-3 hour return journey you’ll pass by alpine streams, glistening waterfalls and be surrounded by lush New Zealand rainforest.

Your experienced local guides will teach you about New Zealand’s conservation efforts, unique history and culture, and flora and fauna, while you explore some of the world’s most spectacular wilderness.

Notes

  • Please Note: There is a minimum of 2 persons required for trip to depart. Single bookings will be waitlisted to be confirmed directly by the tour operator.

    Minimum Age 16 years old, anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. The intensity of the hike is moderate, a good level of fitness is required.

    Schedule: October 1 - April 30th

    Pick-up: From Glenorchy township to the trailhead, or from Queenstown upon request.

    Queenstown Pickup starts from 7am

    Do we provide transportation? Yes, in comfortable 4x4 vehicles from Glenorchy township to the trailhead, or from Queenstown upon request for two or more person-groups.

    Is there an extra charge for transport from Queenstown? No- However, many travellers hire vehicles; So we encourage you to take the drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy, it is spectacular and will allow you to explore freely. Many of our guest like to dine in Glenorchy after the hike and having private transportation makes this possible.
