Itinerary

  • Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu - Your tour starts in the stunning city of Queenstown. Your guide will point out highlights while setting the scene for the day. As we wind our way around Lake Wakatipu, with amazing views of ‘The Remarkables’ Mountain Range and the lake, stopping for photos is a must.
  • Eglinton Valley - After a quick break in Te Anau, we enter Fiordland National Park and Eglinton Valley. This stunning valley follows the path of an ancient glacier through Fiordland. It really sets the scene for a journey that only get more impressive the deeper you get.
  • Mirror Lakes - Our next stop on this epic adventure is Mirror Lakes for a short stroll to see the famous reflections of the Earl Mountains. Get the right day, take a good picture and no one will be able to tell which way is the right way up for the photo.
  • Lake Gunn, Hollyford River & Falls Creek - A short drive away we start passing the Hollyford River, a gorgeous and powerful river full of large boulders and rapids. Feeding into the river at Falls Creek is the first of our extremely impressive waterfalls of the area, one of many to come.
  • Darran Mountains and Homor Tunnel - Climbing in altitude, the views require another stop to admire and take photos. Look out for Kea (the world’s largest alpine parrot). Then enter the mind-blowing, hand-built Homer Tunnel
  • Milford Sound - You board your cruise with Cruise Milford, Tripadvisors No. 1 Cruise operator in Milford Sound. Offering a boutique cruise on a smaller, less crowded boat and with a crew that gives an informative and personal tour, bringing you closer to Mitre Peak, wildlife and nature. Unbeatable
  • Pop's View Lookout - Admire the elevated amazing views of the Main Divide and hear the stories of ancient Maori explorers.
  • Te Anau –We drop you off for your overnight stay in Te Anau early evening so you can enjoy a nice dinner at a local restaurant or maybe take a walk around the lake. In the morning we pick you up and explore the lake edges, visiting one of our favourite spots for a great photos of Lake Te Anau.
  • Dead Marshes & Rainbow Reach -Our first famous Lord of the Rings attraction, a viewpoint looking over The Dead Marshes from an elevated position. At, Rainbow Reach a cable bridged over the Waiau River (The River Anduin in LOTR) leads us to the Kepler Track and Fiordland National Park.
  • Lake Manapouri – The gateway to Doubtful Sound, at Lake Manapouri, spend some time exploring the shores of this crystal-clear lake and hear about its history including the construction of the Manapouri hydro dam, the largest in the country. Then take a quick break at one of the local coffee shops.
  • Mavora Lakes - See amazing landscapes and famous LOTR filming locations including Orc battle locations, Fangorn Forest, and where Frodo & Sam leave the Fellowship and cross the lake. While here explore, eat lunch (additional extra or self-supplied) or use some of our props to recreate movie scenes.
  • Te Anau - The highlights section of your tour is coming to an end as we make our way back to Te Anau town centre but your Te Anau adventure should not finish there. Why not add one of the amazing Te Anau activities as an additional optional extra to complete your day before returning to Queenstown.
