Immerse yourself in a unique experience where conservation, horticulture, and eco-tourism meet on an epic cruise aboard the iconic century-old coal-fired steamship, the 1912 TSS Earnslaw.
Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Whakatipu, with a colonial homestead and beautiful lakeside gardens, Walter Peak High Country Farm is the perfect place to spend a relaxing few hours. The Walter Peak Eco Experience allows you to immerse yourself in nature and learn more about conservation throughout New Zealand.
Begin your trip with a 45 minute cruise across Lake Whakatipu onboard the iconic TSS Earnslaw Vessel (launched in 1912). You will be greeted by our rural hosts upon disembarking the express vessel. Our fantastic team will welcome you, and give you a tour of the stunning Restaurant Garden and showcase the beautiful native plants. Sample fresh produce straight from the veggie beds and orchard!
You will then have the opportunity to leave your mark in Walter Peak's land restoration project by planting a native tree or shrub from our nursery.
Finish off the experience with a walk to the rustic Walter Peak buildings for a delicious platter made from homegrown and local produce. Indulge in florentines made from our on-site bee, vegetable fritters produced straight from the garden and more tasty treats.
Enjoy a stroll through the lakeside gardens before you cruise back across Lake Whakatipu onboard the historic TSS Earnslaw.

Simply put, A must do!!!! I’m a local and have done this once before and already excited to do again. Pure Bliss!
Enjoyed riding the TSS Earnslaw plus highly recommended eco farm activity, the generous farm-to-table goodies and planting my own tree :) P.S strawberries in Walter Peak are indeed the best I ever tasted!
I was expecting to have a nice bbq, as I have heard it does have all kind of meats and quality , instead we ended up having a platter, two platters for 12 people , not even a glass of wine with this. They even put imua to plant trees which is the job of the gardener on a step hill not having health and safety rules. I won’t recommend this one . As it was not what it was expecting for the same price of the bbq. This is a new experience never ever seen this before.
Well, first of all I made a big mistake booking on a new tour called garden to table experience. I did not know this existed as I took my family to the bbq. Big surprise they took us to show us some trees and a very small veggie garden , showing us what vegetable we’re each plant. Not a big deal. The table had two small platters to cater 15 people and the glass of wine was not included… do this cost $155 ? The same of bbq. I think it was overpriced and the last activity to go and plant a tree on a steep hill? Not happy about it!

Wonderful day :)
It was a small tour group, so we got to ask lots of questions and I learned so much about the area! The food at the tea was unreal, the perfect snack and hot drink combo on a rainy day!
