We then had a guided tour, kicking off with general history of the gold rush period and gold mining in the region, then a brief explanation on the types of rocks to look out for (note: it was tailored to be short and brief because of our kids). Then we had a go at sluicing and gold panning! We were lucky for a day with warm-ish spring weather - because you have to get your hands wet. Overall I’d say there’s rooms for improvement but definitely something different for domestic travelers.
