Kirsty said... We booked the Tekapo Star Gazing experience for a cold winter's night in June. We were met at the office in town and taken by mini bus to collect a few other tourists before driving to the Star Gazing site. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a roaring fire and offered a hot drink of our choice (the hot chocolate was amazing!). There was an introduction to the evening then we headed outside wrapped in blankets (optional). Unfortunately on our chosen night clouds had moved in but our hosts made the most of any gaps allowing us to see the moon and Saturn through the telescopes and pointing out any constellations. We then headed inside for a presentation going deeper into the solar system. The information was all very interesting. We were then taken to changing rooms to change into swimwear and had some time soaking in the hot pool with an inflatable hammock while being told stories of the stars and watching for the clouds to move and reveal any other great views. Definitely a must do experience when visiting Tekapo, even on a cloudy night.
