Discover the art of carving jade at our greenstone studio in Rotorua. Immerse yourself in the history of New Zealand jade carving, exploring the origins of pounamu and uncovering the significance of the stone for Māori.
Spend time with our artists in their studio, learning about the carving process and taking in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of our jade carving workshop. After visiting the studio, you’ll get to choose and string your very own pounamu, turning it into a necklace to cherish forever.
Our tour lasts around 40 minutes and is suitable for kids and a great wet weather activity!

Wow, I was the only person on the tour so was really able to ask lots of questions. Staff were really attentive and knowledgeable. I really appreciated the experience.

Jade tour Rotorua
Great little tour about where the jade comes from. Procedure of carving and polishing was shown. The lovely piece of jade was given to each of us in the end of the tour. Well worth if you are in Rotorua.

Interesting and beautiful
We had an absolutely lovely hostess and an interesting commentary. I went with my two of my granddaughters, one a toddler. They were included and respected, as were all the people from the various countries. The shop was amazing, with beautiful jade from around the world. We all went away with a jade necklace, even my toddler.

Very informative
This is a tour for those who want to know more about greenstone aka. pounamu, its history and value and you get to see how it's manufactured. You can ask all kinds of questions and will receive quality knowledge plus choose you very own piece!

Great tour and definitely worth it!
The tour was great! Nice insights into the process of carving Pounamu. The guide was really kind and passionate about the whole topic. In the end you could even select one small piece of pounamu to keep from a range of different smaller pieces, neat!
