Experience the history and unique landscape that is Mount Tarawera. Mt Tarawera erupted on June 10th, 1886, the eruption destroyed the legendary Pink and White Terraces but also created the world’s youngest geothermal valley of Waimangu.

Dramatic mountain
Even though the weather was very changeable, windy and cold and cloudy it was an awesome experience. The guides were very knowledgeable and very helpful and really nice. I highly recommend this.

Good fun!
We really enjoyed the afternoon with our brilliant guides Chucky and Jude. Great fun on the ride out then the walk to and into the crater. Our guides did an excellent job explaining the history and importance of the area, keeping the pace right for the entire group, being entertaining and showing us the respect the place deserves. It was stunning to be there.

Had a great time!
Our guide, Dan, was very knowledgeable and helpful and made this a great experience. Tarawera is an amazing mountain with an incredible history. The walk to the top and into the crater isn’t long and it was fantastic fun. Really recommend this trip!
