Sail Fearless - Lake Taupo & Maori Rock Carving Cruise

Discover the spectacular Maori Rock Carvings aboard a pirate-themed vessel "Sail Fearless", as you embark upon the best sailing experience on Great Lake Taupo...

Highlights

  • Enjoy an intimate, small group cruise on Lake Taupo to the iconic Maori Rock Carvings
  • Journey aboard a pirate themed vessel, "Sail Fearless" with knowledgeable captain
  • Soak up spectacular views over Lake Taupo, Te Kopua and Acacia Bays
  • Jump in the water and have a swim - the longest swim stop of any other company!
  • Enjoy free pizza and beverages on some departures - or purchase light refreshments on-board

The iconic Maori Rock formations at Mine Bay have long been hailed as some of the most celebrated contemporary Maori artworks in New Zealand, attracting locals and visitors alike from all over the world.

Get away from the big crowds and enjoy an intimate cruise aboard our unique, pirate-themed vessel "Sail Fearless" led by local expert - Captain Dave, as we take a thrilling journey on Great Lake Taupo to discover this fascinating cultural landmark.

Prop up a bean bag or snuggle under some blankets and have your camera at the ready to capture some of the most breathtaking views around, taking in the popular Te Kopua and Acacia Bays en route. If you're game, try your luck at giving the crew a hand hoisting the sails or even taking a turn at the wheel!

You will be in awe upon reaching the Maori Rock Carvings embedded in the towering cliff face looming 10 meters high above. Only viewable from the water, these dramatic works are some of the largest rock art of their kind in the world and will be sure to impress!

To top off the experience, you can cool off as we take a stop for a swimming break - the longest swim stop out of any company on the lake!

Many a good time

Would love to give it 4 and half if I could! Felt safe at all times even though there were some large waves. Pizza, drinks, blankets and jackets were all provided and great. Think he did really well in the sloppy conditions. As a Kiwi oir guide did well on telling is the history of the area and carvings however needs to work on his pronunciation of Te Reo Maori. We really enjoyed ourselves! Need to come back in Summer for the swim.
