Discover the hidden wonders of a geothermal valley on a premium 2-hour and 45-minute guided experience! Explore enchanting bushland and winding geothermal paths while learning how our ancestors used the mineral-rich hot pools for cooking and bathing.

The tour includes a stop at the Kiwi Conservation Centre, the sacred Rotowhio marae grounds, and the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute.

Savor a taste of tradition as you sample sweetcorn cooked in an ancient boiling ngāwhā (hot pool) while listening to the captivating tale of Hatupatu, a brave warrior. Your unforgettable experience ends with a powerful live cultural performance inside the beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui-a-Rua. Be welcomed with a spine-tingling pōhiri, and enjoy a showcase of waiata (songs), mōteatea (chants), poi, and the iconic haka – a stirring celebration of Māori heritage!

  • Please Note: A moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy the scenic walk.

    This is a 3km personally guided night trail under the stars, through Te Puia's geothermal valley. (approx. 90-minute duration).

    Walking shoes and a medium level of fitness are needed.

    Recommended Ages: 8 years and older (must be able to do a late-night walk).

    This experience is only available every Summer, starting from 29th September
