Worth every cent

It was simply awesome! The tour guide was a local and explained to us many things about the village very well. It was funny and informative. The live performance was highlight that cannot be missed. Do check out the tour and performance time so that you don't miss any of the both.

The Living Maori Village

The program was really wonderful and well-done. Loved the music and the dance. Our guide was "Girlie" and was so interesting with personal insights into Maori life. The village felt very authentic, maybe even a bit too rustic as many houses seemed in a bit of disrepair or perhaps just needed paint. But that did not deter from the overall experience. Everyone was so friendly and I enjoyed talking with all the residents, running the facility. Ralph at the greenstone shop was especially open and informative as to life in a modern New Zealand. We chose this village over the much larger, more commercial (and more expensive) in Rotarua and we were not disappointed.

A very enjoyable day

We watched the very entertaining Maori show, participated in a guided tour, tried the hangi meal, wandered through the shops and village, and also did the walks around the back of the village. The show was excellent, all the entertainers were very good. Our guide for our tour was great, we learnt a lot not only about the village and its history and the way the thermal gases and waters are used, but also a lot of other Maori stories, customs and beliefs. It was very educational and very informative. The walks around the village were a lovely way to finish off our day at a truly special place.
