Also known as Whale Island, Moutohora is truly one of New Zealand’s hidden treasures and home to a number of New Zealand's rare and endangered plants, birds and reptiles.
Access is highly restricted and your Department of Conservation approved tour guides are delighted to be able to provide tours allowing you to be one of the lucky few that experience this piece of paradise.
Board our comfortable catamaran and enjoy a 15 minute cruise to Moutohora, located just 9kms off the Whakatane Coast.
This fully guided tour will allow you to learn about the flora and fauna and the interesting history of the island including the conservation efforts which have spanned over 50 years.
Submerse yourself in nature and spot saddleback/tieke, kakariki/ red crowned parakeet, little brown kiwi, bellbirds, tui, grey warbler and many species of sea birds in this bird lovers paradise.
The tour also includes a visit to see an NZ fur seal colony, allowing you to get up close and personal to these magnificent animals.
We will also walk to the islands saddle to experience outstanding views of White Island and a visit to Sulphur Bay where you can dig yourself your own hot pool!
