They made us (myself, my partner and another five in a family) do the drill of clipping and unclipping the carabiners before we abseiled 100 m down to the start of the cave. Lunch was tasty - chicken sandwich, blueberry muffin and granola ball and tea. Clipping was needed at the first part of the cave. Then we were pretty much on stable boulders. There were a bit of swimming in the ice-cold cave water but the wet suit provided the buoyancy. We squeezed through a tiny tunnel before jumping 3 m down into the water. There was a long ladder to climb too. And we tried walking without headlamps for a small stretch of the cave, feeling the texture of the rocks along the way. Saw a few giant spiders and lay on a huge boulder to look at the smattering of glowworms on the ceiling of the cave. Then we were out and back in the light with about 30 mins (maybe?) trek to the hut for wash up and BBQ dinner (steak, sausages, garlic bread, roasted kumara and salad). Worth doing.
