Museums Wellington - Space Place Entry

Explore the wonders of the southern skies at Space Place.

Take a journey into space at Space Place at Carter Observatory. Their planetarium offers a state of the art, digital experience that’ll take you on an unforgettable journey from Wellington to the outer regions of our Solar System and beyond.

You’ll discover the sheer scale of the Universe and its origins in the Big Bang, the Maori story of creation, and examine the possibility of life on other planets. Travel through Space Place's very own black hole, handle a space rock and launch a rocket! Telescope viewings are held using the Thomas Cooke telescope during late nights (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) as weather permits.

This is a fun, interactive and educational experience for the whole family.

    Space Place

These guys do a nice job. Different shows that should appeal to different age groups. We also walked into town and around the gardens. You can send an hour of all day discovering things. If you can use bookme you’ll also save a few $.

Interesting way to spend a few hours

Stumbled upon this by chance when looking for something to kill a few hours. Planetarium show was great especially since (being from the UK) everything was upside down so let me get my bearings! Exhibits were way bigger than I expected too. Much of it was the standard information you get in these places but its also one of the few places that talks about the Maori cultures view on stars and constellations which I haven't seen yet anywhere else.

    Great value for money!

Fantastic! A little hard to find out how to purchase tickets from the museum webpage, but once we figured that out (thanks Google) and were directed here the reviews confirm we had found a legit seller (so thanks reviewers! We loved our time in the museum part and the show was very interesting (if a little complex (dark matter)) I did however really enjoy the night sky part of the show. Oh and if it’s still light when you arrive be sure to check out the garden - Saturn is awesome!
