Museums Wellington - Space Place Family Entry

Take a journey into space at Space Place at Carter Observatory.

Explore the wonders of the southern skies at Space Place. Their planetarium offers a state of the art, digital experience that’ll take you on an unforgettable journey from Wellington to the outer regions of our Solar System and beyond.

Travel through Space Place's very own black hole, handle a space rock and launch a rocket! Telescope viewings are held using the Thomas Cooke telescope during late nights (Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays) as weather permits. You’ll discover the sheer scale of the Universe and its origins in the Big Bang, the Maori story of creation, and examine the possibility of life on other planets.

This is a fun, interactive and educational experience for the whole family.

    Fun for the whole family

Great experience. Friendly staff. Easy location. Was great to take the kids up the cable car to get there. We are stars is a great showing and while you're waiting there's plenty to check out.

    Better than tepapa

Absolutely one of the best things to do in Wellington. Movie and a hands on learning room. Gift shop was reasonably priced aswel.

    Good after early disappointment

My young son and I arrived at Space Place midday understanding that we could go round the exhibits and take in the planetarium later. We were refused entry although a school party was inside. We then had to go back down the cable car(the weather was terrible) and spend time in town till we could get in late afternoon. This cost us another cable car return fare, and wasted half a day of our trip. When we eventually got in we were most impressed with the displays of planets etc but had to leave this as it was time for our session in the planetarium. We could easily spent 2 more hours looking round. The Moon landings on the display were fantastic. To sum up, a very impressive display which we highly recommend spoilt by being refused entry which was not made clear on our booking.

    Fantastic :)

This is a great place to take the kids. Heaps of learning opportunities. We watched the Apollo mission and even i learnt a lot. I cannot remember the guys name that took it but he is a real asset.
