The Lake Mahinapua Hotel is a local institution, bringing together West Coast history and creative talent.
Take a seat in one of their Jade carving classes and learn to carve your own piece of New Zealand, with New Zealand Jade. Also known as Greenstone or Pounamu, Jade is a highly valued rock found in Southern New Zealand and has had multiple uses for generations in Maori history.
No experience with jewellery or machinery is required, the friendly local staff will pass on all their knowledge as it has been passed on to them.
Situated 12km South of Hokitika on a beautiful surrounding of native bush, lakes, beach and mountains, there’s no better place to take in some New Zeland history and take a little home with you.
Price: $40 Per Person

Super activité!
Approche simple mais efficace, nous sommes tous les 3 sortis avec un magnifique petit bijou en Jade. Ça valait le coup de sortir de la ville où ça nous aurait coûté le double. Atmosphère en plus très sympathique. Dommage que ce soit à 30h de vol et 7h de route de chez nous! ?

Atelier pour touristes...
Nous avons eu une promo via Bookme et avons payé 18 dollars par personne pour un atelier qui dure environ 30 minutes. Nous n'avons pas vraiment eu d'explications sur l'art du carving sur jade et n'avons eu accès qu'à de petits morceaux (chutes) de pierre dont nous ne connaissons pas vraiment l'origine (jade de NZ ou d'ailleurs?). Nous n'avons pu essayer qu'un seul outil (roue). Pour 18 dollars on ne s'attendait pas à un vrai cours mais ne payez pas le prix normal ($40) pour ça, ça ne vaut pas le coup !

vous voulez un collier en souvenir? venez ici le faire vous mene. c'est presque le prix en magasin mais ce collier, c'est le votre, vous l'avez taille avec vos petites mains, il a donc 100 fois plus de valeur a vos yeux.
