Fascinating history and legends of pounamu
We booked this to avoid the rain - best decision! The experience was really inspiring & immersive, and I loved that all the signage was in Te Reo and English so I had a chance to learn more about the language as well. The myths were fascinating, how they merged into the history of the discovery of pounamu and the settlement of the area, the Māori wars for control of the mountainous region that held the treasured green stone and the routes from east to west, and later European colonisation. Really worthwhile exhibition and beautifully & creatively presented.

Interesting history with modern displays
It was interesting to hear and read the Maori history of the area. I wasn't sure what to expect; it's some text and some audio with images or video. You can complete it in under an hour so could fit this in during a day trip on the tranzalpine from Christchurch!

Māori resurgence
This is a fantastic exhibition and it is truly great to see the Māori story and culture reappearing on the South Island. This is a must do attraction and is worth way more than 5 stars.
