Embark on a true kiwi adventure and challenge yourself in this stunning natural playground! This Canyoning expedition takes you abseiling under showering waterfalls, exploring tranquil river pools, and taking on epic jumps, caves and slides while exploring the pristine Piha canyon, a place rich in adventure, nature and history.

Once you are kitted out in a full wetsuit, harness and helmet things get underway with a short 30 minute walk in to the top of the canyon. Here the adventure starts with an abseil down the impressive 80-meter high Kitekite falls, a stunning series of waterfalls separated by pools with great views down the valley.

Entering the canyon you choose the level of adventure yourself exploring at your own pace, all caves and jumps are optional with alternative routes available.

Lunch is provided on the way down the canyon and gives the perfect opportunity to recharge and take in your surroundings - ferns, mosses and palms all cling to survival on the steep canyon walls creating a truly unique environment.

After lunch the descent into the canyon continues through a narrow slot waterfall to discover otherwise unreachable views and majestic places hidden and preserved from the outside world. There are plenty of opportunities to test your courage, taking on exhilarating jumps into plunge pools and abseiling through breathtaking waterfalls.

Leaving the canyon after your final jump (or abseil) is like emerging from a different world back to reality as we take some time to chill out and relax on the warm black sands of Piha beach. Sit back and reflect while the waves roll up the sand or if you still have energy to burn explore the beach and climb Piha's iconic Lion Rock for a great view over the coastline out to the Tasman Sea.

Great day!

I had some much fun on AWOL's canyoning trip. The guide was wonderful and a great teacher who was also able to tell us about the plants and animals we were seeing along the way. The Canyon is absolutely beautiful and you get some spectacular views from the tops of waterfalls. I highly recommend the trip. It's lots of fun!

awesome/spectacular!

An adventure it was! The hike to and from the falls was a little exhaustive (but totally worth the effort). Once we were suited up and started jumping into pools and rapelling down waterfalls, the exhilaration, sheer beauty and down right fun; was non-stop throughout the day. An excellent guide (hey Ricky!) ensured our safety and maximized our adventure. We even got to pet the resident eel named Albert. More like a water puppy than a frightening water monster! If there were 6 stars offered, I'd give it. Worth every penny and then some. A life-time memory!

Huge dose of fun with plenty of abeseilling!

The right combination of abseils, waterfalls, safety and a huge dose of fun! You can safely put yourself in the hands of Cam and his awesome team. At no time were you pressurised into an activity you didn't feel comfortable in. Due to a combination with a cruise ship, my group was bigger than the norm. Would have preferred a smaller group as the waiting time was quite long, but with such a great deal at bookme, I am willing to put up with a longer wait! As with most activities in New Zealand, you do have to pay for the photos. Would have also prefer a couple more jumps and more/better photos, but overall a fantastic experience! You won't regret doing it!
