Milo & cookies in the box at 851! 🤫

The tour of the park, the walk and talk from Ness were really special. We saw several different native bird and other species and learned alot about the history of the area and of course the natural history and current habitat and residents of the park. Ness is a great guide who is native to the actual place herself, who was able to produce hot drinks and snacks from thin air, and to out-talk four Americans and two Irish. She is a mine of knowledge and also bakes the best chewy choc cookies which can be obtained from an honesty box at 851 ************ Road. She was also very helpful with managing people's access to and from the tour and generally with directions and other info, as well as helping us to repair our electric car with her bare hands. Don't miss it if you're anywhere near the area!

Fantastic evening

We loved our organised kiwi tour with Ness! Saw a juvenile kiwi scratching in the forest, a Morepork 2m above our heads, amazing, Weta and more. Ness has a wealth of wildlife knowledge, and was so accommodating. It was a fantastic evening, highly recommend.

Highlight of our trip

Ness rocks, the sanctuary is beautiful and we saw multiple kiwis and the bird song in the park was sensational. Ness spoke through the history and story of kiwis and the broader birds native to NZ.

Absolute highlight of my trip!

I was lucky to go on a private tour with Ness, which turned out to be one of the highlights of my weeks in New Zealand! She is not only a very friendly and warm-hearted person but also very knowledgeable about the sanctuary and its animals. We drove from Matakana to Tawharanui, where she explained the history of the sanctuary and its wildlife while we enjoyed some hot chocolate and cookies. As soon as it got dark we started the walk and tried to find the kiwis, which turned out quite hard because of the weather conditions. We heard them several times but it took us literally until the last moments of the walk to see one sitting right in front of us, which was great by itself but was made even better by the fact that Ness was just as excited as I was! Keep up that passion and thank you again for the fantastic evening!
