On selected Fridays we enter the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron Rum Races held on Auckland harbour. Join the crew for a rum race aboard the legendary vessels Lion New Zealand or Steinlager 2.

Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand were raced extremely competitively in the past sailing around the world by Sir Peter Blake in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race and we enjoy continuing to race these yachts. Our professional crew are well experienced in inshore and offshore racing, so will guide you to a competitive, yet very enjoyable experience on the water.
During selected Fridays throughout the year we enter the boats in the RNZYS harbour series rum races held on Auckland Harbour. This is a 2-3 hour experience with the thrill of racing a Whitbread Maxi thrown in. We can cater for up to 25 people per boat. You could throw a challenge to your competitors or work colleagues and book both boats or simply enquire about taking a group out for the experience.
The race is called a Rum Race but does not involve provision of alcohol. The prize for boats winning the race get a bottle of Rum at the RNZYS clubrooms post race.
We are a not for profit charity and proceeds from our sailing journeys go towards our youth sailing programmes.

Friday Rum Race on Steinlager
The Friday Rum Race was such a fun social experience!! The crews members were very welcoming, knowledgeable especially I am an amateur, never been on a sail yacht before this! This definitely one of a memorable afternoon, well spent on the Auckland harbour!

Brilliant Trip!
Not much wind for us, but we still got a good speed on this fantastic yacht. I will have to go again sometime!
