A fabulous day.

Enjoyed the cruise with commentary about the Island and calling in to secluded bays on the postal run . Spent the afternoon lazing on the grass and swimming at Mansion House bay, after a delicious lunch at the cafe .. good menu and gluten free options.. the gf bread was a real treat. Mansion House is well worth the $4 entry fee, and do leave enough time to see it all.. suggest check the opening closing times as a few people missed out not realising it closed by 3pm. At busy times leave HEAPS of time to park at the wharf.. we went New Years Day, arrived at 9. 15 for the 10 .30 ferry and the carpark was full, closest park meant a 10 to 15 min walk back to the wharf. Next time I'll take water shoes if swimming as the beach was stony.

The best day out!

We absolutely loved the Royal Mail cruise! The staff were lovely and the boat clean and spacious. The ride out to the island took a couple of hours which involved the kids and me standing out on front deck and back deck watching the ocean most of the time and taking in the stunning sights and breathing in the sea air. The views of the island were breathtaking. No filter needed! The café at Mansion House was open so we got ice blocks. The Mansion was fabulous. Even the kids were excited to view it. We had a dip in the ocean off the beach at Mansion House. One of the trails was shut, but we were too hot to trek anyway. Watch out for the beautiful peacock and peahen. They were after our cake :) Would definitely recommend this trip and will be going again when the weather is cooler so we can explore the island more.

Not the boats fault

I cannot fault the boat company at all. But I can fault DOC. We turn up at the island to the museum being closed, the cafe closed, and no way to use the two bbqs there. The electric one was disconnected and the gas one had no bottle attached. We walked around all day with uncooked meat in our bag. Lucky we packed chips so had sandwiches instead. Really let down by that. The boat offers a bbq lunch but as we read there were bbqs on the island we didnt take advantage of this but wish we did. I've rated the experience great as it was nothing the provider could have done the issues are with DOC which was highly disappointing. Make sure you get your facts sorted before you go or you could end up like us. Would of booked the onboard lunch if we knew. Hindsight!
