Mount Maunganui and Karanghake Gorge Day Trip

Wander the old mining trails and tunnels of Karangahake Gorge. Hike to the Summit of Mount Maunganui, for amazing views. Follow up with a refreshing swim at the beach or relaxing soak in the hot pools.

- Hike to the summit of Mount Maunganui, or take the easier track around the base.

7.00am; Pick Ups in Auckland
A 1.5hr drive takes us to our first destination. This scenic drive takes us through various kinds of New Zealand farmland and forest. With the Coromandel mountain range in the distance, it's a great backdrop for a drive.There will be a stop for bathroom/coffee etc
> The Karangahake Gorge
9.00am - Spend an hour exploring one of the fascinating historic walks within the gorge. The paths will take you alongside the Ohinemuri River and through old mining tunnels. Take a torch and explore the tunnels, and investigate the relics of an older time that litter the forest trails.
10.30am - Visit to the Owharoa Falls. A great photo stop, and option to swim if the water is warm enough.
After we leave the gorge it's about an hours drive to our next stop.
> Mount Maunganui
12.00pm - Climb to the summit of Mount Maunganui (or Mauao) for some very rewarding views. The walk winds around the Mount through paddocks and forested paths. Or choose to do the less strenuous option around the base as an alternative.
1.00pm - Lunch Time! Picnic on the beach, or visit one of the great local cafes, bakeries or restaurants along the beachfront. If you want, have a swim in the beautiful beach.
> The Mount Hot Pools
2.00pm - It's time to chill after an awesome day. Relax and unwind in the Mount Hot Pools. Soak away the life's stresses and relax the body after the day of hiking and exploring.
3.30 - 6.30pm -Return to Auckland in time for dinner.
We are sure after hiking, hotpools and lunch you'll be able to have a little snooze on the way home.
