It was an experience, something we have never seen before, some of the art was creepy as but interesting to look at. There are lots of souvenirs to chose from, I wished it didnt cost so much for the clothing. Also kids wished they could try on the clothes without a $5 fee for doing so, so they didnt get that experience because of it. Overall a pretty fun experience.
We loved this museum. Have heard and read about it and it certainly didn't disappoint. Fun for all ages. Not many places to visit that dont cost an arm and a leg but great value for money. Will definitely visit again when we are in Oamaru. There are some very talented people who put the displays together - thank you so much!
With the Bookme deal this attraction is definitely worth a visit. It's quite unique and an experience for all ages.
We had a lot of fun playing around at this museum. You will too.
Awesome adventure!
Fun experience! Loved the portal light display and quirky art
what an awesome place to visit. The Portal is a definitely a MUST experience. I had a fantastic time. Would love to visit again soon.
This is a must visit in Oamaru. A great experience for my family.
Really interesting way to spend an hour. The portal was weird experience and very clever.
Whilst very Mad Max like the steam punk connection stems from an art exhibition in the town a few years ago. On conclusion they had some very large exhibits and found a place in the lovely historic quarter to put them. I am not a great fan of the genre but you don't have to be. They are clever individual sculptures and include a boat built for the film Master and Commander at Weta studios we had visited in Wellington. Really good fun day and the portal exhibit is well worth visiting. Could easily charge double and still be good value.
Fun art experience. If you like movies like Mad Max, Mortal Engines, Wild Wild West then this place is for you. Very interesting and creative. Most of the exhibits are interactive so great for the whole family. Well worth the price.
Hands on, interactive and fun. A little dubious that this was not "our thing", but pleasantly surprised. From an art point of view the creativity is amazing and clever, a Victorian view of a world powered by steam in the absence of electricity. Do try the Portal, it will blow your mind!
Explore every nook and cranny. Look above and look below. There is so much to see here. We found this place amazing and loved every moment of it. A suggestion from us is to take your time. Touch things to see what they do. Read the boards. And let your imagination ride wild.
Pretty cool, family friendly. Amazing creations!
I saw this online and didn't think it appealed at all...and then we drove past! The train was an absolute show stopper! It was closed but we booked tickets online...at the gate! AMAZING!!! Loved the whole experience! Fun! Exciting! Something for everyone! Great staff!
Had a great time at Steampunk HQ. Wasn't sure what to expect, so the bookme deal came in handy. Every time you turn around you will find something new to explore. Enjoy the portal at least 3 times, and if you hear strange noises: its penguins hiding.
Absolutely loved it. So much work has gone into each and every art work. I loved every moment and didn't want to leave. I especially loved the portal, stunning.
What an awesome place . 33 years living in central Otago and my first visit to steampunk . Such a great place to visit
Great place to visit for mad Max alternative reality. Highly recommend. Inside is freezing so dress warm.
We had an awesome time! So much so that my partner, Fergus, wanted to stay and play in the courtyard at the back and make his own contraptions. Haven't seen him so excited to visit a tourist attraction in ages! Really sparked our imaginations.
Was a great experience. Good to see the train in action and the organ was amazing. Some of the displays not working which was a pity. But we'll worth a visit. Thanks 👍
If you are planning on stop on your way to somewhere else, It would pay off to plan for at least a couple of hours, one to go over the Steampunk, and one to get to know Oamaru. Both are great!
What a great place steampunk HQ set in the great victorian quarter. Good place to vidit and stunning artwork and sculptures. Only limited by your imagination
Arrived to see the blue penguin colony, left remembering this unique and brilliant ‘museum’ (of sorts). Definitely worth going to visit. Loved the light show... loved her Steampunk art. Receptionist was lovely too. Town is beautiful. Worth the drive up from Dunedin.
The Portal was fantastic, but remember to go out the back. Most exhibits you can climb on to play with or just take photos
Awesome light display ?
We are all over 65, it was so much fun. The sculptures were like being in a Mad Max movie. The pipe organ makes everyone sound as though they are professionals lol.
Suitable for all ages, interesting old equipment that has been repurposed
For those who are into Jules Verne & H. G. Wells fictions, this place is a must visit. For a first timer like me (although I am into Jules Verne genre), this place gives a kind of spooky and creepy feelings yet, creative intrepretation towards other realm is very well displayed. Overall, it’s a good experience.
Thank goodness for bookme. I wouldn't have known about this place till I got there, definitely something different. The bookme price was ideal, unsure if I would have paid full price. It was a good look around and I enjoyed the lights, that was cool, outside would be a boys delight, using an old mac cab as entry into a room. Great for the kids, I picked a day where there were heaps of school kids there..... they seemed to be loving it! I took my 3yo, it was dark in places for her and she was a bit scared but liked the lights.
