The most amazing experience and a must do if you come to Franz Josef. Really can’t see the glacier much from the ground unless you do a 6hr hike. This flies over the top and then lands on the snow- it was absolutely incredible. A really experienced pilot and amazing ground crew. Can’t recommend this enough. Be aware that this activity Is weather dependent so book it early in your stay. The office were great in keeping us informed and rescheduling when it was too cloudy to fly. We were so fortunate to fly on a perfect day - Thankyou so much.

Absolutely brilliant experience! Weather was closing in fast so the pilot had to make an alternative plan for us, but we flew over the rainforest and up to land on Shackleton Glacier, then flew on over Franz Josef. Awe inspiring sight! One off the bucket list, would highly recommend. Worth every penny!

Booked for the 25 min and got upgraded free of charge to a 60 min one. Our pilot was friendly and knowledgeable and the views were incredible

Penny is an amazing pilot and tour guide. Entire outfit is so well run. Absolutely a great experience. Loved seeing the Southern Alps & glaciers from above. Penny shared so much info about all we could see. Lucked out with perfect weather. So surprised how warm it was up on the glacier. Shared ride with 4 others, everyone was very satisfied (6 total in the heli) Worth every penny. Just book it!

We booked this flight for my husband's birthday on 8 January 2023. All of the staff at Glacier Country Helicopters were exceptional and safety standards were very high. We liked the fact that it was a family owned business. Never having been on a helicopter flight before we were all a little nervous but very excited. Weather was amazing so we were very lucky. It was an amazing experience flying in a small aircraft to these huge natural wonders and to land on it was just unbelievable. Only negative was the short amount of time we had to spend up there because once we got there it was a surreal experience. You have to do this flight regardless of the cost as it really is a once in a lifetime experience. It was great to get the discounted rate through bookme.com so we could then budget for other wonderful experiences.

Worth every $. Lovely family run operator. This is a great experience flying up over the glacier and having 5 minutes stop on a level snow covered area before returning to base. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a great time, 35 min were perfect to see Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, Mt Tasman and even Mt Cook! The snow landing was really cool, we had enough time to take some pictures and enjoy the snow :) Highly recommend!

Awesome experience and very worthwhile. It was the highlight of the West Coast road trip for both families that flew. Service and communication from Glacier Country Heli was excellent. They were very flexible and proactive in moving our booking around to suit the weather window. Well done, top job. Absolutely fantastic flight and experience. Highly recommended! Would do it again in a heartbeat. The kids are still raving about it.

This company was brilliant. Megan contacted us prior to ask if we could amend our flight time due to imminent cloud cover so we left on an earlier time slot. Dion was our pilot who had a wealth of knowledge and made the flight the most memorable amazing experience ever! Our snow landing was spectacular- we were able to take lots of photos, play in the snow, made snow angels and snow balls etc! Great pilot, stunning landscape

This was one of the highlight of my trip. Highly recommend it! It was once in a lifetime experience crossing the magnificent mountain range and fly above the glaciers. Our pilot Dion was amazing as well! It was a such a smooth fly. Weather was amazing as well.

This is a flight we should have done years ago! Amazing scenery seen from a unique perspective. Very well organised and flexible enough to contact us and move the flight time forward to take advantage of a break in the weather. Jay the pilot was very knowledgeable - he summed up the prevailing conditions on takeoff and tailored the flight to ensure optimum landing site and viewing sequence of glaciers and mountains. Like the rest of the team, he was also very friendly and happy to answer any questions we raised. Highly recommended!

We had the most amazing time on our heli hike tour! It was our big splurge on the trip but worth event dollar! Our guide Nick was very knowledgeable about the area, extremely safe and took care of guests that needed help while at the same time went out of his way to create an extra adventurous experience for those who were up for it! We will never forget our ice cave adventure! The girls who checked us in and geared us up were also very helpful and lovely. 10/10!

Just love how knowledgeable and fun our guide Lewis is. He brought us to several cracks and caves where he makes up a path take us to off tracks places. Overall all awesome adventure!

Can’t describe how amazing the trip was! We were lucky to get great weather in morning and we spent almost 2 hours on the glacier and did a decent hike! Stunning!! and the guides were awesome! By far the most amazing trip I’ve experienced and I have done a few! They give you pants, jackets and crampons. Heli ride is about 3-4minutes and they land on the glacier itself! You get partial refunds if you don’t get the full time spent on the glacier due to weather conditions which is great. But we spent the whole time up there! Don’t listen to the bad reviews! This was worth it!

Awesome! We did abit of research as to which glacier (Fox/Franz) was better & which tour. I’m pretty sure we did the best one, as we were able to walk on the Glacier. Our guide (Canadian Mike?) was super friendly & made our whole experience unreal. Everything was provided. A short 5-10 minute helicopter ride, then we were on the glacier. Definitely recommend the heli hike to anyone who is unsure.

Incredible to get up there, and into crevasses with that beautiful blue ice. Staff were very friendly & helpful - I was unwell on the day I had originally booked and they very kindly just shifted me to the next day, which I appreciated. The whole process from check-in & getting gear to the flight to the hike itself was a smooth process. It really made a difference only having 4 of us, I can’t imagine going with a much bigger group (such as the one before us). Thanks Rookie & team!
